the Original Crush Books
Where the idea came from . . .
- Crush Books were first published in the 1940s. They had a wood cover with a cute design and included several pages to keep track of who you liked.
- When first published, they included a picture of a teen girl, but inside showed a grown man with suit and tie as a place to add a photo of the person you liked.
- They were several covers available but some did not convey the concept of "him" books.
- They were meant for white girls only; remember it was the 1940s.
They weren't called Crush Books.
When these books were originally published, they were called a girls "him" (hymn) book.
The originals are hard to find in perect condition.
Through all my research, I found four. They are in various stages of disrepair, yet selling for too much money for the condition they were in. Some were missing all the inside pages, others had cracked wood covers.

It is missing inside pages and has been tied together.
I only know of one original in perfect condition.
I have an original copy packed away that I always wanted to re-create for my own kids. It is in perfect condition and NOT FOR SALE.
